Counterfeit DVDs Seized, Store Owner Arrested

OTTAWA — November 1, 2007 — On October 19, a search warrant was executed at a local business, “Beau Bon Pas Cher”, and approximately 1,800 counterfeit DVDs were seized. The owner, Mr. Jean Simard of Gatineau, was arrested and the following charges were laid on October 30:

• four Copyright Act offences (42(1)(a), 42(1)(b), 42(1)(c) and 42(1)(d))

Simard was released after his arrest on October 19 and is scheduled to appear in court on December 12.
