Canada Feature Film Fund 2007-2008 – development support
Telefilm Canada issues call for French-language Canadian-majority international co-production projects

Montreal, November 15, 2007 – In keeping with the intent of the Canada Feature Film Fund to increase audiences for Canadian feature films, Telefilm Canada issued a call for French-language co-production development projects demonstrating a potential for success in all partner countries. This pilot initiative was announced in conjunction with the Cinéma du Québec à Paris event.

“Diversifying the financing of French-language feature films is a priority,” said Michel Pradier, Director – Quebec Office and French Operations. “Telefilm Canada has created this co-production pilot initiative as a new tool to help French-speaking filmmakers bring meaningful works to larger audiences at home and in the co-producing countries. Our aim is to ensure the development of competitive projects that can go on to obtain funding from the Canada Feature Film Fund’s main program and tap into alternative financing sources.”

Eligible applicants, projects and costs
In addition to the eligibility criteria of the Canada Feature Film Fund, applicant companies must have produced at least one fiction feature film in the past three years, signed a co-development agreement with one or more French-speaking producers from a country or countries with which Canada has an official co-production agreement, and hold a majority share of all rights pertaining to the project.

For a project to qualify, it must be for a French-language fiction feature film with previous screenwriting support from Telefilm, be written by a Canadian, and have a letter of intent from a Canadian distributor or a distributor from a co-producing country.

For further information regarding eligibility and application deadlines, please consult the guidelines that will be online soon on Telefilm’s Website at www.telefilm.gc.ca. All projects must be directed to Telefilm’s Montreal office.
