Advisor on Healthy Children and Youth

There is a wide range of federal government policies and programs directed at maintaining and improving the health of Canada's children and youth. The Government of Canada is always interested in examining and improving the federal government's role and in exploring ways to do more to improve the health of Canada's children and youth.

Canada's New Government Taking Action

The Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Health has appointed Dr. Khristinn Kellie Leitch as his Advisor on Healthy Children and Youth. In this role, Dr. Leitch will make recommendations regarding ways in which the federal government can better contribute to enhancing the health of children and youth.

Role of the Advisor on Healthy Children and Youth

As part of her mandate, Dr. Leitch will meet with stakeholders, experts, Canadians, as well as representatives from provincial and territorial governments to review existing children and youth health activities and programs, in order to deem their effectiveness and to identify gaps and new initiatives that can directly impact the health of children and youth.

Dr. Leitch is also seeking Canadians' input through a short online questionnaire which has been developed to gather opinions from Canadians on the health issues facing Canada's children and youth. The information will be used to assist the federal government in effectively contributing to healthy living outcomes for Canada's children and youth. The questionnaire is available until June 29, 2007.
