These results were extracted from the Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC) national database. They were derived from data collected for operational purposes and are subject to adjustment as they are drawn from a database that is updated daily. No warranty or other legal assurance as to the truth, accuracy or completeness of any of this information is stated or can be implied. Any person making use of this information for any purpose whatsoever does so entirely at his/her own risk and the Crown shall have no liability whatsoever. Complete data on all Federal Government purchases would require collection from all departments and crown agencies. Many only have the data in paper archives.

Extreme caution is urged for users who may wish to draw conclusions concerning economic impact of government contracts. For example, many firms have set up offices in the National Capital Region (NCR) to facilitate bidding/tendering and billing for government contracts. The actual delivery point for the contract may be elsewhere in Canada or even offshore. For example, some large oil firms find it more efficient to process federal sales through an NCR mailing address regardless of where in Canada the fuel is processed and delivered.

The PWGSC/AB database includes:
  • goods bought by Public Works and Government Services Canada for PWGSC and other departments and agencies;
  • call-ups against Departmental Individual Standing Offers (DISO);
  • standing offer agreements (total estimated dollar value) arranged by PWGSC;
  • Real Property contracts for construction and maintenance valued below $25,000; and,
  • services bought by PWGSC.
The PWGSC/AB database excludes:
  • goods bought by other federal departments, agencies and Crown corporations;
  • services bought by other federal departments;
  • national security-classified contracts;
  • call-ups against most standing offers made by departments;
  • consulting contracts arranged by Consulting & Audit Canada (CAC)
  • contracts issued by the Information Technology Services Branch (ITSB);
  • contracts issued by the Translation Bureau;
  • any other goods contracts for specific commodities for other federal departments and agencies for which specific delegated authority has been given.
