ecoENERGY Retrofit - Homes
The ecoENERGY Retrofit - Homes program provides non-taxable grants to homeowners and owners of rental properties who have carried out renovations that improve the energy efficiency of their existing home or property.

Eligibility Information
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- own the home or property for which the grant is to be used
- receive a pre-retrofit assessment from an energy advisor and conduct specific renovations as established by the assessment
- receive a favourable post-retrofit assessment from an energy advisor
- agree to have their home or property's electronic data file and their personal information submitted to NRCan
- other criteria may apply
Homes and properties must meet the following criteria:
- be located in Canada
- be the applicant's principal residence or be a residential property that is rented out to others
- be either a detached house, a semi-detached house, a row house, a low-rise multi-unit residential building of three stories or less, or a mobile home built on a permanent foundation
- other criteria may apply
Application Information
- Applicants must hire a licensed energy advisor to conduct a pre-retrofit assessment. Following the renovations, the energy advisor will conduct a post-retrofit assessment, which will identify the grant amount the applicant is eligible to receive.
- The advisor will complete an application form to be approved by the applicant, and will forward it to NRCan for processing. Application forms are only available from energy advisors.
- Energy advisors can also determine if an assessment that was conducted before the ecoENERGY Retrofit - Homes program was implemented is still valid.
- Energy advisors can also provide information on product types or brands suitable for the proposed renovations, as well as on the estimated costs associated with each renovation procedure.
Financial Information
- There is a fee for the services of an energy advisor.
Dates and Deadlines
- The renovations must take place within 18 months of receiving the pre-retrofit assessment, with the exception of Aboriginal housing.
- Applicants can expect payment within 90 days of NRCan receiving their application.
- Grants are only available for renovations conducted after April 1, 2007.
