The Atlas of Canada's Gazetteer Map Service is an Internet-based service designed to provide Web site developers direct access to the Atlas of Canada's Find a Place maps. The
service generates a URL linking directly to a map showing the location of any
of the gazetteer's 47 000 place and geographical feature names. This selection
of names comes from the Geographical Names Board of Canada's Concise Gazetteer.
The complete database can be searched at the Geographical Names Web site.
List of Instructions:
- Step 1 - Enter the place (for example, Alberta,
Halifax) or feature name (for example, Ottawa River,
Hudson Bay) and click the arrow symbol. A search
will be made of the database for the selected name.
To refine the search, other options can be selected
if desired.
- Step 2 - Select the appropriate
name from the search results list provided.
- Step 3 - Copy the
URL and use it as a link in your Web page from
your text or image.
