AIRPORT PASSENGER NUMBERS HIGHEST
IN FIVE YEARS

John Buchanan, President & CEO, Saint John Airport Inc. is pleased to report that 2006 year-end passenger numbers were up 9.8% over the previous year, and were the highest annual numbers reported by the Airport since 9/11. The year-end count totaled 194,864 and stats for the month of December were the highest Christmas numbers since 1999 – the last time the Airport passengers totaled over 200,000.
“We are obviously thrilled with these results”, says Buchanan, who was quick to add that 2007 numbers will be even better with the addition of SunWing sun destination flights this spring.
Although the year-end stats for all airports have not yet been reported, Saint John had been reporting the highest passenger growth rate in the Province up to the end of November, and was reporting the second highest growth rate in the Atlantic region, after Charlottetown.
AIRPORT ANNOUNCES PLACEMENT OF
AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATOR MACHINE

The Saint John Airport announced today that an automated external defibrillator (AED) has been placed at the Airport terminal building.
This machine has been generously donated by Clow Canada (makers of fire hydrants, gate valves and waterworks products) as part of the Public Access Defibrillation Program of the Atlantic Health Sciences Corporation Department of Emergency Medical Services. It is the first public machine to be placed in the region.
Medical evidence supports the use of AED’s for victims of sudden cardiac arrest. Twelve Airport employees have been trained on use of the AED. However, it is very user-friendly and voice prompts would allow any member of the public to put it into use, if required.
The Atlantic Health Sciences Corporation hopes this will be the first of many AED's to be placed in public places in the region.
