Thailand – Flash floods - natural disaster

Torrential rain and flash flooding have been affecting numerous provinces across the country. Local officials have declared the island of Samui a disaster zone. Flooding has affected air transportation in Samui. Travellers are advised to check with the Thai Meteorological Department for up-to-date information. This severe weather is expected to last for several weeks.

Canadians residing in or travelling to lowland areas and affected areas should exercise caution, and monitor local news and weather reports. Travellers are reminded to follow the advice of local authorities and determine whether the situation will disrupt travel arrangements.

Canadians seeking emergency consular assistance should contact the Embassy of Canada in Bangkok, the Consulate of Canada in Chiang Mai or the Emergency Operations Centre in Ottawa.
