Government Partners Involved in Youth Employment Strategy

Twelve Government of Canada departments and agencies work in partnership with business, labour, industry, not-for-profit and voluntary organizations, rural and remote communities and all levels of government to help young people get the information and develop the skills and work experience they need to prepare for and participate in the world of work. Read more about this initiative or call the Youth Info Line at 1 800 935-5555.

Here is a list of federal departments and agencies involved in Youth Employment Strategy and some of the many initiatives that they provide for youth and students.


Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada 

  • Career Focus Program in Agriculture and Agri-Food 
    Career Focus will contribute $1.1 million to research projects that employ recent graduates in agri-food science and veterinary medicine. Each project will be eligible to receive up to $12,000 in matching funds.

Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation 

Canadian Food Inspection Agency 

  • Career Focus Program
    Provides recent university graduates in the biological, chemical, agricultural and veterinary science fields, who are currently unemployed or under-employed, with rewarding internships at CFIA.

Canadian Heritage

  • Young Canada Works
    Offers wage subsidies to employers for students and graduates to work in the areas of heritage, official languages and in Aboriginal culture.

Canadian International Development Agency

Environment Canada

  • International Environmental Youth Corps
    Involves creating and providing employment opportunities and work experience for Canadian university and college graduates through international internships with Canadian exporters of environmental products and services.

  • Science Horizons Youth Internship Program
    Offers promising young scientists and post-secondary graduates hands-on experience working on environmental projects under the mentorship and coaching of experienced scientists and program managers.
