Geoscience Data Repository
The Geoscience Data Repository (GDR), is a collection of
Earth Sciences Sector geoscience databases that is managed and accessed by a series
of Information Services (GDRIS). This site allows for you to discover, view and download,
free of charge, the following information using these services:
- MIRAGE - Geoscience map images
The GSC has published thousands of maps since the mid-1800's. More than 10,000 of these maps have been scanned and are available through the MIRAGE site.
- Digital geoscience maps
The Geological Survey of Canada has published about 400 maps digitally. The geological polygons for approximately 250 of these maps are currently being made available to find, preview, and download as shape files through this map search tool.
- Aeromagnetic data
Compilation grids (200m and 1000m) of Canada: residual total field and first vertical derivative data. Point and grid data for 300+ individual surveys.
- Gravity data
Compilation grids (2000 m) of Canada: Bouguer, Free-air, horizontal gradient, first vertical derivative, isostatic, and observed gravity data. Point data from the Canadian Gravity Database.
- Radioactivity data
Compilation grids (250 m) of Canada: Potassium (K), Uranium (eU), Thorium (eTh), Natural air absorbed dose rate, eU/K, eTh/K, and eU/eTh data from the NATGAM database.
- Seismic and magnetotelluric data
Seismic and magnetotelluric data from various projects including Lithoprobe, the Frontier Geoscience Program, and the Laurentian Basin Seismic Survey, as well as the East Coast and Arctic Refraction Catalogues.
- NGR geochemical data
Geochemical point data (lake sediment, stream sediment, lake water, stream water) from the National Geochemical Reconnaissance database
- Geochemical survey metadata
Searchable metadata for over 500 geochemical surveys conducted across Canada since the 1950s.
- Mineral deposits
World Mineral Deposit Database and a Canadian Mineral Deposit Synthesis that describes important mineral deposit classes in Canada.
- Energy - Fossil Fuels data discovery tool
Data related to fossil fuels (oil, gas, coal) in Canada; Canadian National Coal inventory; analysis of borehole cuttings, core and outcrop samples, gasoline fraction, saturates, aromatics, hydrocarbon, geothermal observations.
- Canadian geochronology knowledge base
The compilation represents publicly available reports of geochronological information for Canada
- Physical Rock Properties
The National Rock Properties Database is comprised of data collected from borehole geophysical logs, measurement of core samples and rock samples
- Expeditition Database
Expedition Database (ED) contains information (metadata) and data related to the scientific cruises conducted by or on behalf of GSC Atlantic and Pacific.
- Physical Archive Database
Offshore and coastal Canadian samples and geophysical records holdings
- Canadian Marine Multibeam Bathymetric Data
The Geological Survey of Canada has compiled various datasets of high resolution marine multibeam bathymetry, comprising survey data collected by Natural Resources Canada and other partners over the last 10 years.
