    Financing Stage Characterized by: 
    Seed  An idea (often used for proof-of-concept), a business plan, and preliminary research. No commercial sales. 
    Startup Product development, preliminary marketing, key management in place. Understanding of regulatory requirements.

     

    Early Stage Initiate commercial product development and sales efforts. 
    Growth Stage Business and marketing expansion.  
    Later stage Mature company, major expansion.  
    Mezzanine Funding for mid-term development, pre-IPO. 
    IPO (Initial Public Offering) Equity in the firm made available to the public for the first time.
