What's New

Welcome to the consultation site for the St. Lawrence Estuary Marine Protected Area (MPA) project. Throughout the fall of 2004, Fisheries and Oceans Canada held a public consultation on this project.

The purpose of this MPA is to ensure the long-term conservation and protection of marine mammals that live year-round in the St. Lawrence Estuary (beluga and harbour seal) or only a certain times of year and of their habitats and food resources.

We invite you to browse through our site, where you will find brief descriptions of the Marine Protected Areas Program and the St. Lawrence Estuary MPA project as well as the transcripts of the public sessions (in French only). We especially encourage you to consult the backgrounder on the project.
