Africa - floods - natural disaster

A number of countries in West, Central and East Africa have been experiencing heavy rains in recent months, causing flooding. The affected countries include Gambia, Senegal, Mauritania, Mali, Liberia, Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Togo, Niger, Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Sudan, Uganda, Kenya and Ethiopia. These severe weather conditions have affected road travel, health and sanitation.

Canadian travellers should avoid the affected areas until the situation has stabilized. Canadians should refrain from undertaking unnecessary overland travel in those areas, monitor local news and weather reports, and follow the advice of local authorities.
