RE-APPOINTMENT TO THE GREAT LAKES PILOTAGE AUTHORITY

OTTAWA — The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today announced the re-appointment of Mr. Robert J. Paterson to the board of directors (domestic shipping) of the Great Lakes Pilotage Authority, for a term of two years.

"I am very pleased to announce that Mr. Paterson has agreed to continue serving on the board of the Great Lakes Pilotage Authority," said Minister Cannon. "His business experience and background in the Great Lakes region will be an asset to the Authority."

Mr. Robert J. Paterson currently serves as director and chair of the board for Goderich Elevators Limited. From 1971 to 2002, he held several positions with N.M. Paterson and Sons Limited, including chief executive officer, Marine division, and director. He is a past director on the boards of Winnipeg Charterers Limited, the Canadian Lake Carriers Association and the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce. He was also director and chair of the Canadian Committee of Lloyd's Register of Shipping, the Canadian Shipowners Association and the Canadian Shipowners Mutual Assurance Association. Mr. Paterson has also been involved with a number of community organizations in the Thunder Bay area, including the Lakehead University Board of Governors and the Lakehead University Foundation, as director and chair. He currently is a member of the advisory committee for the Great Lakes Protective Association. His previous appointment with the Great Lakes Pilotage Authority was as director, member and chair of the audit committee.

The mission of the Great Lakes Pilotage Authority is to establish, operate, maintain and administer in the interest of safety, an efficient pilotage service for commercial vessels within the Great Lakes region.
