Rendez-vous at Man and His World

Extended until November 15, 2007

Exhibit of 30 large-scale photographs on the construction of Notre-Dame and Ste-Hélène Islands, the Man and His World site in action and the Biosphère, the former US pavilion during 1967 Montreal World's Fair.

Explore Expo 67, a short film originally sponsored by Alcan which brings back the atmosphere and excitement that prevailed at Man and His World and throughout Quebec society at the time. Can you see yourself in the crowd?


RESPECT: in the heart of the boreal forest

Presented free of charge - August 16, 2007 to February 28, 2008

Photo: John WoodsAn exhibition presented in the great outdoors, of 40 giant-size aerial photographs of the Canadian boreal forest.

Designed by Reporters Communication, a non-profit organization based in Montreal, this unique Canadian exhibition was produced with the support of SAJO and the participation of some of the best photographers in the country. RESPECT aims to share with city dwellers one of the most precious Canadian richness, the boreal forest, and calls on us to take on the attitude we should have to protect it.

The exhibition’s panels extend from the Biosphère to the Jean-Drapeau metro station. The RESPECT project also includes another part of 80 photographs presented simultaneously at the Canada national historic site The Forks in Winnipeg, MA. Moving Giant - The Great Lakes – St.Lawrence Ecosystem

The exhibition introduces visitors to this vast area and acquaints them with the ecosystem’s usefulness and richness. Have fun exploring a circuit of interactive games, models, videos and even a climbing wall in a nautical setting!

Water Wonder
More than an exhibition with its eight interactive modules, you can play games, conduct experiments and tackle challenges such as building a ship, generating energy and even walking on water!  Dive in and test your ideas by using your skills and creativity. 


 

Planète Bucky

Planète BuckyA concrete look at sustainable development showcasing contemporary innovations that follow in the footsteps of the Biosphère’s creator, R. Buckminster Fuller (1895‑1983), and the environmental philosophy behind his inventions.

In the same spirit, familiarize yourself with wind energy by exploring various modules and observing the Biosphère’s wind turbines in action.

Green Light for Ecotechnologies 

Starting June 15, 2007

Biosphère's wind turbine
Discover green technologies at the Biosphère. A guided visit will familiarize you with the museum’s two wind turbines, its constructed wastewater treatment wetlands and its geothermal heating and air-conditioning system.

 


All the Water in the World

Water in oceans, glaciers, lakes and rivers and in the ground covers 71% of the planet, but only a minuscule amount of that water is drinkable. What can we do on a day-to-day basis to protect it?


One-Earth Challenge

See how greenhouse gases contribute to global warming and discover simple and concrete steps you can take to reduce your emissions. 


Creative workshop

Create a mini wind turbine, using recycled materials.

TrilogyThe Surprising Nature of Water

This interpretative trail takes you to three wetlands in Jean Drapeau Park: the Biosphère’s environmentally friendly wastewater treatment plant, the marsh in the Floralies garden and the filter ponds at the beach.

Multimedia

Man and His World

Starting August 1, 2007

This impressive short film illustrates the wealth and splendours of Canada’s biodiversity and reminds us of the importance of preserving it.


Keeping Current

A multimedia and interactive show reliving the voyage of the Sedna IV, a research vessel which sailed the St. Lawrence River in summer 2004, featuring individuals who feel passionately about the river and are worried about the impacts of climate change. A discussion follows, featuring biodiversity, human health and navigation issues.


The Brain Shaker

Follow the frenzied route taken by a water droplet from the tap to the mixer and finally to the sewers.

Youth Program

Project Agent XThe Biosphère’s youth program is tailored to school groups and day camps. It offers fascinating experiences that explore various environmental themes.

The educational activities are focused on science, creativity or observation, with the goal of making children and youth between the ages of 4 and 25 more aware of the importance of water, the Great Lakes – St. Lawrence ecosystem and climate change.
