APPOINTMENTS TO THE NATIONAL CAPITAL COMMISSION

OTTAWA — The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today announced the appointments of Mr. Kory Bobrow and Ms. Jacquelin Holzman to the board of directors of the National Capital Commission (NCC).

"I am pleased that these appointees have accepted to take on these new roles," said Minister Cannon. "Their collective experience and successes in a variety of fields will be tremendous assets to the NCC."

Mr. Kory Bobrow studied political science at Carleton University in Ottawa. He began his career as a financial advisor for Marleau Lemire Securities, where he was employed for four years. He moved to Midland Walwyn Capital as an investment advisor in 1996. Mr. Bobrow has since been employed at the successor firms, Merrill Lynch Canada and currently, CIBC Wood Gundy. He is a recipient of the 2007 M. Leadership Award and served on the board of St. George's High School of Montreal, as the Alumni Representative. He is also a founding member of the BNI Canada Corporate Connections Executive 1 Chapter and is currently a member of the fundraising committee of the Learning Associates of Montreal. Mr. Bobrow has been appointed to the NCC board for a term of four years.

Ms. Jacquelin Holzman is a former mayor of the City of Ottawa. After leaving the mayor's office she became chair of the Ottawa Congress Centre until she retired in 2003. She is currently chair of the Ottawa Health Research Institute and was an honorary lieutenant colonel of the Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa. Ms. Holzman served on the Algonquin College Board of Governors and as co-chair of the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame. In 1998, she was named Consumers Choice Awards "Woman of the Year" and in 2001, she received the St. Joe's Women's Centre "Quality of Life Award." Ms. Holzman has been appointed to the NCC board for a term of two years.

The NCC is a Crown corporation that was created by Parliament in 1958 as the steward of federal lands and buildings in the National Capital Region. The NCC mandate is to prepare plans for the development, conservation and improvement of the National Capital Region to reflect its national significance as the seat of the Government of Canada and to organize, sponsor and promote public activities and events in the National Capital Region to enrich the cultural and social fabric of Canada.
