International Stories Hockey night in DubaiDUBAI -- January 2007, HMCS Ottawa was alongside Dubai, UAE for a port visit and was challenged by the Dubai Mighty Camels hockey team to a game of ice hockey in the desert.
Four months into a six-month deployment, the sailors were more than a little rusty but they played their hearts out over two consecutive nights. This was the third time Ottawa had the opportunity to hit the ice during her deployment on Operation ALTAIR, playing in both Singapore and Oman.

Foreign port sports offer an excellent morale-boosting opportunity that always leave the sailors refreshed and ready to return to the challenges of life at sea. While Ottawa was chasing the Mighty Camels in Dubai, the Canadian Juniors were picking up her slack winning gold in Sweden. That's the great thing about Canadians: anytime, anyplace, we can drop what we're doing, pick up a stick for a good game of hockey, and feel right at home!
After two games against the Mighty Camels, rusty sea legs proved to be a challenge for HMCS Ottawa’s hockey team, who succumbed to the Dubai victory.
