How
do I apply for a Government of Canada DTC, and what should I do if I
haven't received my card yet?
To obtain a Government of Canada DTC
you must fill out a card application form [“Apply
for a card”]. You may also obtain this form by contacting your
Senior Full-Time Travel Officer
(SFTO) or Departmental Contact. Once completed, the card application
form requires the signature of your supervisor and an authorized
officer (be the SFTO or Departmental Contact) for final approval.
Once approval has been granted, American Express will process the
application.
Cards are usually processed and
received within two weeks of the time American Express receives the
approval from your SFTO.
If you do not receive your DTC, you
can call American Express Customer Service at 1-800-514-2915.

My
DTC is about to expire, what should I do?
American Express will automatically
send you a new DTC one month prior to the expiry date. Once you
receive your new card, you should immediately activate it by calling
the telephone number found on the sticker on the front of the card.
You should then destroy your previous card by cutting it up. Your
previous card will automatically be cancelled upon activation of
your new card.

Does
the Government of Canada DTC have a spending limit?
All cards have a $3,000 monthly
spending limit (unless otherwise requested). ATM withdrawals have
the following limits:
- Daily:
$500
- Weekly: $1,000
- Monthly: $1,500
It should be noted that ATM
withdrawals are debited from the card's overall credit limit.
Therefore, if withdrawals of $1,500 during one month are made from
ATMs using a DTC, the remaining available credit for the month would
be only $1,500, and not $3,000.
If the cardholder requires a higher
spending or ATM withdrawal limit at the time the card is issued,
this should be indicated on the application. To request a different
spending or ATM withdrawal limit on an existing card, the cardholder
should contact their SFTO
or Departmental Contact.

When
is payment due on my Government of Canada DTC statement, and how do
I settle my statement?
Payment is due upon receipt of the
statement and must be received before the next billing cycle ends.
You are responsible for directly paying the entire balance on your
monthly statements. Doing so in a timely manner prevents incurring
late fees.
If your DTC payment is late, you may
be subject to late fees and reward points forfeiture.
If payment is not received within 60
days of your statement date, it is considered late and delinquency
fees will be assessed for any charges that have gone past 60 days.
If payment is not received on these delinquent charges within 90
days of your statement date, your card will be suspended. If payment
is not made within 120 days of your statement date, your card will
be cancelled.
There are a few ways to settle your
statement:
- You may
write a cheque to American Express and mail
it in the envelope included with your
statement;
- You can pay your statement
at most financial institutions, either over the counter, by
phone or through Internet banking; or
- You can also drop your
payment at American Express Travel Service locations where
drop boxes exist. Call 1-888-414-8747 for the location
nearest you.
