11/14/2007 Kovalchuk had his first game-winning goal of the season when he scored 25 seconds into overtime to lift the host Thrashers to a 3-2 win over the Florida Panthers on Tuesday night. It was the 28th game-winner of Kovalchuk's career after he had seven in each of the previous two seasons. Kovalchuk finished with a goal and an assist in his first appearance since a four-game scoring streak ended in a 5-3 home loss to Carolina on Saturday.
11/11/2007 Kovalchuk's four-game scoring streak ended as the host Thrashers suffered a 5-3 home loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday. Kovalchuk has eight goals and two assists in that span. The Thrashers are 1-5-0 in the six games in which the left wing has not recorded either a goal or an assist. Kovalchuk has 22 goals and 13 assists for 35 points in 31 career games against the Hurricanes.
11/10/2007 Kovalchuk increased his career point total to 401 when he had a goal and an assist to lead the visiting Thrashers to a 4-1 win over the Florida Panthers on Friday night. Kovalchuk, whom the Thrashers selected first overall in the 2001 draft, has scored in each of the last four games. He has eight goals and two assists in that span. Atlanta is 4-2-0 in the six games in which the left wing has at least two points.
11/9/2007 Kovalchuk is expected to play Friday night in Florida, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The left wing skated a bit at the end of Thursday's practice after the stiffness from spasms in his back had subsided. Kovalchuk left midway through the second period in Tuesday's overtime win over Washington, and did not return to the game.
11/7/2007 Kovalchuk scored his NHL-leading 13th goal to help the host Thrashers to beat Washington, 2-1, in overtime on Tuesday. The left wing scored at the 13:40 mark of the second, but three minutes later, doubled over in pain against Atlanta's goal-line boards. He briefly lay face-down before skating off the ice without assistance, but did not return. Interim coach Don Waddell said Kovalchuk will have an MRI Wednesday.
11/4/2007 Kovalchuk had his second consecutive three-goal game, helping the visiting Thrashers rally for a 6-4 win over Tampa Bay on Saturday night. The left wing, who also added an assist in the victory, had a hat trick in Thursday night's loss to Ottawa and has nine three-goal games in his career. This was Kovalchuk's fifth multipoint game of the season and his first four-point effort since a win over Boston last Nov. 6.
11/3/2007 Kovalchuk had his eighth career hat trick in his 400th NHL game, but the visiting Thrashers fell, 6-4, to Ottawa on Thursday. It was the left wing's fourth multipoint game this season and his second such effort in three games. He had three points - a goal, two assists - in a win at Chicago last Saturday. He has nine goals and six assists in 13 games this season. Kovalchuk has 211 goals and 183 assists, and is six points shy of 400 for his career.
10/31/2007 Kovalchuk has converted three straight shootout attempts since last season's finale for the Thrashers. Both of the attempts he has taken this season have decided games in the third round, including one that helped the visiting Thrashers beat the Montreal Canadiens, 3-2, on Tuesday night. Kovalchuk had missed his first three shootout attempts last season. He is 4-for-16 in shootouts in his career.
10/28/2007 Kovalchuk contributed a goal and two assists as the visiting Thrashers defeated Chicago, 3-2, on Saturday. It was the left wing's third multipoint game of the season and his second in the last three games. He had three points in a shootout win at Toronto on Tuesday. He has three or more points in 32 career games. Kovalchuk has six goals and six assists in 11 games for the Thrashers.
10/24/2007 Kovalchuk converted the decisive shootout chance in the third round, helping the visiting Thrashers beat the Toronto Maple Leafs, 5-4, on Tuesday night. The Thrashers had a 2-1 edge in the shootout. Kovalchuk was 1-for-4 last season and 2-for-14 in his career in shootouts before converting his first attempt this season. The left wing had a goal and two assists for a season-high three points in regulation.
10/14/2007 Kovalchuk scored twice, but the host Thrashers fell, 6-5, to New Jersey on Saturday. The left wing had 15 multipoint appearances last season, and his last such effort came in a win over Montreal on March 8. Kovalchuk last had a multigoal game when he had two scores in a shootout win over the Devils on Jan. 30. He has at least a point in eight straight games against the Devils, and has totaled 11 goals and six assists in 18 career meetings with them.
10/11/2007 Kovalchuk scored an unassisted goal to tie the score with 13:04 left in the first period, but the host Thrashers still fell, 3-1, to the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday night. The Thrashers, however, received a scare during that first period as Kovalchuk exited with what was thought to be a shoulder injury. He received treatment, returned for the second period and played the remainder of the game with no apparent problems.
10/10/2007 Kovalchuk headed to the locker room after apparently injuring his shoulder during Wednesday's game against the Ottawa Senators.
