The goaltender's previous shutout came against Tampa Bay on Nov. 1. DiPietro had lost each of his last two starts, but improved to 9-5-0 with a 2.35 goals-against average and .910 save percentage in 15 starts this season.
Analysis: DiPietro has won each of his three starts against New Jersey this season, improving to 10-8-2 with a tie, a 2.25 GAA and a .919 save percentage in 21 career starts versus the Devils. The goaltender showed no effects of the eye injury he sustained three nights earlier. DiPietro was struck in the right eye by the stick of Pittsburgh captain Sidney Crosby during in the second period of New York's win on Saturday. He was cleared to practice Monday and reported no problems after the morning skate Tuesday.

Islanders coach Ted Nolan said DiPietro looked good in the net Monday, but didn't reveal if the 26-year-old franchise goalie would play Tuesday night when the team hosts the New York Rangers. "Let's see how Ricky does at the morning skate on Tuesday and then we'll make a decision," Nolan said. "He's too valuable to this franchise to do anything hasty."
Analysis: DiPietro was injured Saturday night in the second period of the Islanders' 3-2 victory over Pittsburgh. He was examined at Nassau Coliseum during the game and then went to the office of team ophthalmologist Dr. Bruce Zagelbaum, who confirmed that DiPietro didn't sustain a serious injury or permanent damage to his eye. However, New York coach Ted Nolan said DiPietro was able to walk out of Nassau Coliseum following the win. Islanders spokesman Chris Botta added that DiPietro didn't suffer a severe eye injury, but was taken from the arena to the office of team ophthalmologist Dr. Bruce Zagelbaum for an evaluation.
Analysis: Botta said the doctor confirmed DiPietro did not have a major eye injury, but would not say whether he had any vision problems. He's listed as day-to-day and will be re-evaluated Monday. Wade Dubielewicz came on in relief of DiPietro on Saturday and stopped one shot in the second period and six more in the third to earn his first victory of the season.
