Lieutenant Commander Robinson joined the Naval Reserve as a non-commissioned member at HMCS Brunswicker in July 1972. After completing basic training he began his career as a Supply Technician and completed training in that area during his early years with the Naval Reserve. During his final two years in high school he continued training with HMCS Brunswicker and was employed at CFB Summerside, in Prince Edward Island.

After completing high school in Saint John, he under took various training and employment opportunities with the military, including employment at a variety of Canadian Forces bases throughout Canada. In the spring of 1974, at the age of 19, he volunteered to serve with the Canadian Contingent serving with the United Nations’ Emergency Force Middle East and was selected as one of the first reservists to serve with this United Nations mission. He was employed in the UN ration depots in Cairo and Suez, Egypt, for six months beginning in September 1974. He has also served on ships of the Navy on both the east and west coasts of Canada. He has instructed at the Canadian Forces School of Administration and Logistics at CFB Borden in Ontario. He was promoted to the rank of Chief Petty Officer First Class in November 1985.

After graduation from the University of New Brunswick in May 1984 he accepted a position with Saint John Shipbuilding Ltd (SJSL) and was initially employed as a member of Integrated Logistics Support Group. During his twelve years with SJSL he worked in a variety of areas, with his last position being Supervisor of Spares Procurement where he was responsible for the procurement of all spare parts for the Canadian Patrol Frigate Project.

His last position as a non-commissioned member was as Coxswain of HMCS Brunswicker, a position he held for four years, until February of 1996, when he was commissioned as a Lieutenant (Navy) and accepted a full time position as the Training Officer of HMCS Brunswicker. Since being commissioned in 1996, he has held numerous positions within HMCS Brunswicker.

He has served as Aide de Camp to the Lieutenant Governor of New Brunswick since November 1998.   Serving The Honourable Marilyn Trenholme Counsell, and the current Lieutenant Governor, His Honour Herménégilde Chiasson.  He completed Maritime Warfare Course in Halifax in January 2002 was promoted to his current rank on 18th of January 2002. In late May 2002, he accepted a three-month position as the Officer-in-Charge of the National Band of the Naval Reserve for its 2002 tour, including the band’s participation in the Nova Scotia International Tattoo in Halifax and touring throughout New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Ontario and Quebec. He completed the Joint Reserve Command and Staff Course at the Canadian Forces College in Toronto in July 2003.  Lieutenant-Commander Robinson assumed Command of HMCS Brunswicker on 20 July 2006. He and his wife, Katherine (Chalmers) reside in Rothesay, New Brunswick.
