Application No. 2006-0667-6
|
|
Application by Bell Canada
(Bell) to amend the licences of its cable distribution undertakings
serving the above-mentioned locations. |
|
The licensee proposes to amend
its licences to authorize these cable systems to distribute on a digital
basis one or both of the audio programming services offered by Canada’s
two satellite subscription radio undertakings. |
|
Bell submitted that the
carriage of these digital services would offer a number of benefits to
the Canadian broadcasting system, among other things, increasing not
only the diversity and comprehensiveness of programming choices
available to Canadians, but also the exposure and monetary support for
Canadian musicians, particularly new and emerging artists. Bell added
that the presence of satellite radio services on Class 1 digital
broadcasting distribution undertakings (BDUs) would generate more
interest from the existing base of Class 1 analog BDU subscribers,
thereby encouraging them to subscribe to a digital distributor. |
