Dorel Distribution Canada and Transport Canada wish to inform the public
of an error in the instruction manual provided with the Cosco Arriva
infant seat models 22H51RVD, 22H51PAW and 22H51THE, produced between
January 2004 and March 2006, inclusively. Transport Canada discovered
this error as part of its annual enforcement testing and inspection
program. All seats include a detachable base. These seats can be used
correctly with and without the base. The model number and date of
manufacture can be found on a label located on the seat. The instruction
manual provided with the seat carried part number 4358-3172B. The part
number is located at the top right corner of the cover page of the
instruction manual.
The instruction manual describes how to install
the infant seat without the base using the universal anchorage system (U.A.S.)
belt. The method described in the manual suggests that there are two
U.A.S. belts included with the product, one with the seat and one with
the base. This is incorrect. The instruction manual has been revised in
order to clarify that only one U.A.S. belt is included with the base.
The revised instruction manual, carrying part number 4358-3172C,
correctly explains that the U.A.S. belt can only be used when installing
the unit with a base. The correct method of installing the unit without
a base is with the vehicle seat belt only.
The method of installing the unit without the base using the U.A.S. belt
refers only to the Cosco Arriva infant seat models that do not come with
the optional base.
While this is not a safety-related issue, Dorel Distribution Canada and
Transport Canada wish to inform all parents and caregivers of the
correct method of installing this infant seat. |
