Problem: |
One of the seven statement of compliance labels in English incorrectly
states "Place this child restraint in the rear facing position when
using it with an infant (from birth to one year) weighing less than 14
kg (30 lbs)". Six other labels on the product all correctly state
10 kg (22 lbs). |
|
|
Background & Company Action: |
Mattel Canada received two complaints from a retail account and the
company immediately initiated an investigation into the matter. The
affected restraint system packaging at the retailers have been corrected.
The 1347 consumers who returned the restraint registration cards will
receive letters concerning the incorrect information on the carton.

|
Safety Risk: |
Mattel Canada received a public complaint from a
consumer regarding label information and immediately initiated an
investigation into the matter by auditing the inventory in the
warehouse. The retailers have been audited and the problem has been
corrected at the retail level. Nevertheless, 390 units with the one
incorrect label are in the hands of consumers. |
|
|
Consumer Recourse: |
A consumer can telephone the Fisher-Price call centre (1 800 567 7724)
and discuss the matter with a company representative and a new label
will be sent out. In addition, consumers who have returned a
registration for the product will receive a letter in the mail with a
new label that is to be placed over the incorrect label.
