Models & Model Numbers Affected:

2005 and 2006 Hyundai Tucson models FWD (GL, GLV6) and AWD (GLV6, GLSV6)

Dates of Manufacture:   October 1, 2004 through August 31, 2005

Problem:

The owner’s manual contains incorrect child seat installation instructions. The manual specifies that the vehicle seat back must be fully upright for the installation of a forward-facing child seat. In fact the vehicle seat back should be reclined two positions from the most upright latched position. This is not a safety-related or compliance issue.

Background: In late January 2006, Hyundai Auto Canada contacted Transport Canada to inform them of the incorrect information pertaining to the installation of children’s restraint systems in these vehicles. Hyundai Auto Canada became aware of the situation during testing. Improved instructions will be provided to all owners.

Company Action:    Hyundai Auto Canada is participating in this notice in conjunction with Transport Canada.

Hyundai Auto Canada has notified Transport Canada that it plans to forward letters to owners of affected Hyundai vehicles providing them with two self-sticking labels with the correct information to be inserted into their owner’s manual.

Safety Risk:    To date, there have been no reported injuries associated with the improper installation of a children’s restraint system in these vehicles.

Consumer Recourse:

Transport Canada is encouraging owners and operators of the affected vehicles to ensure that the self-sticking labels are inserted in the owner’s manual and to follow the proper child seat installation instructions. Should an individual, who is not the original owner of the vehicle, not receive these labels, then they should contact Hyundai Auto Canada at 1-800-461-8242.
