New research report on e-business released — CSTD Report Tracks E-Business Adoption by Canadian Training and Development Firms.

Toronto, Ontario, June 17, 2004 — How do private sector education and training firms use the Internet to generate revenue and promote new business? What factors lead to their adoption or non-adoption of e-business?

Answers to these and other important questions are found in a recently published study by the Canadian Society for Training & Development (CSTD). "Case Studies on E-Business Adoption by Canadian Training & Development Firms" provides the advice, conclusions and interview transcripts from senior executives from a diverse cross-section of Canadian training and development businesses in Ontario, Quebec, Alberta and British Columbia.

"Familiarity with strategies implemented by successful e-business ventures provides an invaluable benchmark for those moving forward with their own e-business initiatives," says Lynn Johnston, Executive Director for CSTD. "Developing e-business capacities is a necessary imperative for Canadian private sector education and training firms."

Respondents unanimously endorsed the need for their firms to use e-business. E-business helps these firms to globally market products/services, provides better customer service and saves money.

Major challenges, however, are identified. Firms have difficulty getting proven expertise and advice on how to move forward and sometimes struggle to keep up with rapidly changing technologies.

The study confirmed that key criteria are being developed to gauge the success of e-business initiatives. These include sales, Web traffic, increased market reach and the addition of new products and services to their core business.

Results of the report will be discussed today at the launch of CSTD's Quebec Chapter in Montreal.

"Permission to publish this press release was provided by the Canadian Society for Training and Development (www.cstd.ca)."
