Prairies and northern Manitoba

Winnipeg-Churchill train (the Hudson Bay)

See the northern lights from a 360-degree view!
From October 1-31, 2007, choose Comfort sleeper class aboard the Hudson Bay and enjoy all-included meals, unlimited coffee and tea, and access to the exclusive Park car with scenic dome. Imagine seeing the rugged Arctic tundra - and maybe even the aurora borealis - up close!

For a total change of scene, head off aboard the Hudson Bay for a 1,700 kilometre journey (over 1,000 miles!) in Northern Manitoba. Leaving Winnipeg, in the heart of the southern prairies, you travel to Churchill, a city in the vast subarctic region, on the shores of Hudson Bay.

The Hudson Bay also allows outdoor enthusiasts to get off the train anywhere they want, even where there is no scheduled stop! How? Simply by requesting a special stop!

Please note that station locations on some Google maps may not be entirely accurate. We are currently verifying the exact locations of all our stations.

The Hudson Bay is also the only overland transportation serving many communities en route. The train's exact route varies depending on its number:

  • Train no. 693 leaves Winnipeg and travels via The Pas and Wabowden to Churchill. This is the train that travellers "from the South" take to visit Churchill and Hudson Bay. Train no. 692 makes the return journey.

Classes and services available

Two classes are available:

  • Comfort class (economy), the most economical way to travel in this vast region.
  • Sleeper class, which gives you a comfortable bed and access to a shower. These small luxuries will be greatly appreciated, since you spend two nights aboard the train to travel from Winnipeg to Churchill!

For a description of the services (meals, baggage, etc.) and cars to which you have access, follow the link for the class of your choice.

Connections and stations

Winnipeg, at the southern end of the route served by the Hudson Bay, is on the route of the Canadian, which crosses the entire Canadian West between Toronto and Vancouver.
