VIA launches EnviroExpo – Spread the Word!

I have always found youth inspiring—especially the creativity and enthusiasm of youth today. They deserve to inherit a world that has been responsibly managed by us.

VIA Rail has long been a champion of the environment and believes that youth have a vital role to play in finding new answers to the challenges we face. This is why we created EnviroExpo, a challenge for Canadian youth, ages 12 to 18, which asks them to use a combination of art and science to find solutions to some of our greatest environmental challenges. VIA, together with the Youth Science Foundation, established this exciting program to serve as a springboard for environmental innovation.

EnviroExpo begins this fall in schools across the country. Projects will be judged at the local level and the winners invited to the Canada-wide science fair in Ottawa in May 2008. EnviroExpo festivals will follow at Union Station in Toronto and Central Station in Montreal, in June and July 2008. Throughout this process, we will give young people the opportunity to realize and present their creations, while at the same time financing $30,000 in scholarships, and more.

I am convinced that students from across Canada will distinguish themselves with their artistic expressions and innovative thinking.

Even if your school years are behind you, you can still get involved. Tell young people you know about EnviroExpo. They can learn more about it at viaenviroexpo.ca.
