Special Cases

Temporary Movement; Appendix I, II or III

For any movement of specimens whose importation and exportation is temporary.

For example: domestic animals, plants, circus animals, musical instruments, art objects, or other specimens that are derived from any species listed in one of the three Appendices

 

An application for a Movement Certificate must be submitted to the Canadian Wildlife Service (CWS)




Scientific Movement for Scientific Purposes Only

Specimens must be exchanged between scientists or registered institutions (PDF), pursuant to the exemption included in Article VII, subsection 6, of the Convention and deposited with the CITES Secretariat.
They must be needed for an institution's research project.

Animal specimens must be dead.
Plant specimens can be alive or dead.
