Commanding Officer Biography

Line CarbonneauAssistant Commissioner Line Carbonneau hails from Gaspé, Québec. After graduating from secondary school, she studied at the “CEGEP de la Gaspésie” and in May of 1975 received a diploma in Social Work. In 1985, she obtained a Certificate of Law from Laval University in Quebec. City.

Line Carbonneau joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in August of 1975. She trained with the third troop of female members at the RCMP Academy in Regina, Saskatchewan. After Recruit Training, she was posted to Quebec City where she worked as an investigator in different branches such as Customs & Excise, General Investigations and Commercial Crime (Fraud and Bankruptcy).

In August of 1987, Line Carbonneau was transferred to the VIP Section in Montreal. In May of 1988, she was promoted to Corporal in the Commercial Crime Branch; and from there, was transferred to Customs & Excise Section. She was in charge of a group investigating offences against the Import & Export Acts.

In October of 1992, she was Commissioned, and was the Officer in Charge of Staffing and Personnel at the RCMP Training Academy in Regina, Saskatchewan.

In December of 1994, she was assigned as Travel Officer for the protection of the Prime Minister. She travelled the world until January 1998 when she returned to “C” Division as Officer in Charge of Operations in the Commercial Crime Section. In April 2000, she assumed responsibility as Officer in Charge of the Southeast District (Eastern Townships and Montérégie) comprising of eight Detachments, until being assigned as Officer in Charge of Protective Operations, NCR in June 2001.

On December 1, 2005, Assistant Commissioner Line Carbonneau has become the 29th Commanding Officer of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Quebec.
