In Comfort class on the Ocean you can travel between Montréal and Halifax at very reasonable prices. Sitting in your comfortable seat, you can stretch out your legs, lean back into the headrest, and admire the scenery rolling by the window. At night, a service attendant will offer you a pillow and blanket.
Located in our service car, this elegantly designed lounge gives you a space to meet other passengers, join with friends, or admire the scenery as you enjoy a pleasant conversation.
At the take-out counter, we serve light meals, refreshments, and treats. Feel free to enjoy your snack at one of the tables or at your seat. A specially designed suite in the service car ensures enjoyable travel for persons with restricted mobility.
On certain departures, your take-out counter and lounge will be located in a Skyline car, which includes a panoramic dome offering you a superb 360-degree view of the steep hills and charming Maritime villages.
During the off-peak period, stroll along to the dining car to discover some regional specialities and a little Maritime warmth. View our menus.
Take note however that with the addition of our Easterly tourist class during the peak period (from May 1 to October 31, 2006), tables in the dining cars will be reserved firstly for Easterly class clients (and secondly for Comfort sleeper class clients if seats are still available). Feel free, however, to go to the take-out counter in the service car.
We recommend that you restrict yourself to one article of carry-on baggage. Make use of the baggage car and check any articles you won't need during the journey. You can check up to six or seven articles depending on the train (including three or four articles free of charge). Certain restrictions apply as regards weight and size of baggage. The number of articles allowed on your train will be specified by Reservia, our online reservation system. You can also call us at 1 888 VIA-RAIL (1 888 842-7245).
On certain trains, we can carry oversized articles such as bikes or kayaks.
Please note that due to the lack of ventilation in the baggage cars during the summer season, it is impossible to check your pets or take them with you on most Ocean departures from May 1 to September 30.

You will enjoy only 100 percent Fair Trade Certified coffee while traveling on all trains throughout Canada. To help us further reduce waste, you may even purchase VIA’s stainless steel insulated mug for only $5 and the Comfort Coffee Card for $9. This card entitles you to 6 hot beverages (coffee, tea, or hot chocolate, where available) aboard any VIA Rail train when you present VIA’s mug or your own in Comfort Class (economy).
Alcohol is served in the Skyline car and dining car. Alcohol service is governed by provincial laws. As such, the times at which alcohol is served depends on the province in which the train is travelling. Under these laws, you cannot consume alcohol that was not purchased on board.
In response to the many requests of our passengers, the Ocean is now a non-smoking train. The ban extends to the vestibules, washrooms, lounges and private spaces. However, those who wish to smoke will be able to do so when the train stops in Charny Campbellton and Moncton stations.
Families are well received aboard the Ocean! Children love the Kids Activity Book containing materials for colouring and cut & paste activities. Videos for them are shown day and evening in the Skyline car. There's even a special kid's menu in the dining car!
