Wild Species 2005 - the general status of species in Canada

Peregrine Falcon

The general status process is focused on the determination of general status for full biological species. Other national assessment processes (e.g. COSEWIC) and some provincial/territorial assessment processes are based on different designatable units (e.g. subspecies, variety, population). For some species, a provincial/territorial/ocean region general status rank for a species may be based on a compilation of assessments carried out using a different designatable unit. Any information related to intra-specific taxa that is relevant to the general status assessment process is captured and noted in a comments field within the reporting documents (e.g. Wild Species 2000 and Wild Species 2005).

Additional information for this species

Canada rank was Sensitive (3) in 2000 and it was changed to Secure (4) in 2005 (due to improved knowledge of the species and biological change in species’ population size, distribution or threats).
