Control List
Since 2003, Environment Canada has managed the CITES Control List as a database. Species included in the CITES Appendices are listed and additional information is provided on the Canadian native species. Among those:
- subspecies, variety or population;
- status following COSEWIC (it is noteworthy to remember that many CITES listed species are not at risk in Canada).
- distribution, habitat and other information available on different Canadian Wildlife Service websites.
The Control List is updated on a regular basis, especially after meetings of the Conference of the Parties when ammendments to the list are adopted.
It is now possible to:
- Display on the screen a list of CITES species following different criteria;
- Search for a species by keyword;
- Print the Control List and other related documents.

The CITES Secretariat also produces several documents related to species included in the CITES Appendices, such as:
- the Official Appendices List;
- the CITES taxonomic sources and Resolution Conf. 12.11 with regard to nomenclature;
- the CITES Species Database.
Other tools are available to provide further information. Specialized documentation is available to help you identify CITES species and information sheets will give you the opportunity to learn the details of trade of certain species.
