The future of renewable fuels in Canada took a big step forward today with the launch of the NextGen Biofuels FundTM.The new fund, with $500 million in funding provided by the Government of Canada, will be managed by Sustainable Development Technology Canada (SDTC).

STRONGFIELD, SASKATCHEWAN Prime Minister Stephen Harper today announced a substantial investment to boost Canada's production of biofuels. Under ecoENERGY for Biofuels, the government will provide up to $1.5 billion in the form of incentives over nine years to producers of renewable alternatives to gasoline and diesel fuel.

Biodiesel Study Targets Cleaner Air, Cleaner EnginesThis link opens a new window. GUELPH – Cleaner engines, cleaner air and more uses for local farm products were the focus of a just-completed study of biodiesel as an alternative fuel source on selected Ontario farms. This province-wide initiative is the only one of its kind in Canada. It involved six farms to evaluate the effectiveness of using biodiesel in agriculture.

Canada's New Government announces ecoTrust funding for ManitobaThis link opens a new window. – Canada's Minister of the Environment today announced that Canada's New Government intends to provide Manitoba with $53.8 million as part of the new Canada ecoTrust to support provincial projects that will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions smog and air pollution. The funding would support the creation of new biodiesel plants in rural Manitoba; increasing Manitoba's portfolio of renewable energy to include solar power and bio-gas.

Prime Minister unveils new Canada ecoTrustThis link opens a new window. – Prime Minister Stephen Harper, today announced that Canada's New Government intends to provide Quebec with $349.9 million, as part of a new Canada ecoTrust to support provincial projects that will result in real reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and air pollutants. Quebec's plans include a pilot plant for production of cellulosic ethanol and support for waste treatment and energy recovery from agricultural biomass.
