Travel Saskatchewan and Manitoba and discover the geographical heart of Canada. Explore the cities of these provinces, and then take a train trip to see some of the most Canadian of creatures - a trip that tours polar bear country!
From fur-trading education to furry-creature observation!
Saskatoon and Winnipeg, in Saskatchewan and Manitoba respectively, are the largest cities in these provinces. Aboard the Canadian, stop off in Saskatoon to visit the Western Development Museum, then walk along the shores of the Saskatchewan River. Make a point to stop off while "A Taste of Saskatchewan" is on, and taste the cuisine of the city's best chefs in an outdoor festival setting.
Then, travel to Winnipeg, Manitoba's capital, and see a city rich in history and culture. Visit the Museum of Man and Nature, the Manitoba Museum, and the Inuit art collection at the Winnipeg Art Gallery. Head into St. Boniface, the largest French-speaking community west of Ontario. You'll find the St. Boniface Cathedral and the Cercle Molière, which was the first French-language theatre in Canada. And, if you have the chance, you can catch a performance by the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, or the famous Royal Winnipeg Ballet.
If you're feeling particularly adventurous, then hop aboard the Hudson Bay to the City of Churchill. Here lies the world's capital of one of the most ferocious of carnivores - the polar bear!
New! From October 1-31, 2007, when you travel in Comfort sleeper class, you'll also enjoy all meals included in the price of your ticket, unlimited coffee and tea, and access to the exclusive Park car with scenic dome. Imagine seeing the rugged Arctic habitat - and maybe even the aurora borealis - up close! Then retire to the Mural or Bullet lounge to discuss with other travellers the amazing Arctic and Subarctic wildlife just outside your train windows.
Once arrived, take a polar bear tour in a bear-proof bus and see the amazing animals up close. Whale watching is also popular in the Bay, not to mention other outdoor activities in the surrounding areas.
Prepare for the Prairies... and your polar bear tour!
