Return to Program Information           What's New?

Welcome to Sky Watchers for the new 2007 school year! We would like to congratulate all our Club Sky Contest Winners from last year. A list of all our winning schools across the country is shown below.

Meanwhile, another school year is underway, and Sky Watchers schools across the country are identifying clouds, recording temperatures, and learning why a red sky at night is usually good news. Wouldn't you like to join them?

Whether you're a returning Sky Watchers school or whether you're new to the program, there's still time! Why not take a few minutes to look over this year's options on the 'Program Description' page and register today!

For returning schools, you will notice a difference in our Club Sky Contest from previous years. This year, we have eliminated the Regional Club Sky awards. We will, however, continue to award prizes to the top school in each Region (Pacific and Yukon, Prairie and Northern, Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic) for each of the three club sky contest periods. See our Club Sky Contest page for more detailed information on how to participate. The dates for this year’s Club Sky Periods are:

Period 1 – September 17 – December 7, 2007

Period 2 – January 7 – February 29, 2008

Period 3 – March 3 – May 23, 2008

There will also be a national grand prize awarded at the end of the school year to the school with the highest number of observations in the country for the three club sky periods combined.

Environment Canada is currently in the process of re-evaluating the Sky Watchers Program and is developing a national strategy that will carry the program forward into the future. The aim of this is to make the program more sustainable and relevant to educators across Canada.

We will be sharing information with you on this process here on the ‘What’s New’ page as we move forward. If you wish to send us your comments or suggestions, please forward them to Environment Canada at the address below or call your regional Sky Watchers’ coordinator toll free in Canada at 1-888-758-0000.
