Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Veterans Affairs

Betty Hinton, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Veterans AffairsBetty Hinton was first elected to the House of Commons in 2000 and was re-elected in 2004 and 2006. Most recently, Ms Hinton served as Critic for Veterans Affairs. Prior to this she was Critic for Public Health, for Status of Women and for Multiculturalism.

Ms Hinton has been Vice-Chair of the Subcommittee on Veterans Affairs and a member of the standing committees on National Defence and Veterans Affairs, on Status of Women, on Health and on Canadian Heritage. In February 2004, she became Deputy Speaker of the House following a unanimous vote by all parties. She is also a recipient of the YWCA Woman of Distinction Award in Public Affairs. Ms Hinton lives in Kamloops, British Columbia. She is married to Jamie and they have two children.
