Range Profiles Range profiles are the seasonal means and expected ranges of temperature and salinity. Range Profile files contain statistical information about the area enclosed by the polygon in the displayed map (see Location section). The statistics are based on CTD and bottle cast profiles which were present in the IOS data archives at the time of the file's creation (December 1996). In addition to being area-specific, the statistics are also specific to a season. The month and day constituting the start and end of this season are in the START_TIME and END_TIME in the FILE section below. The statistics are based on CTD and bottle cast profiles which were present in the IOS data archives at the time of the file's creation (december 1996). In addition to being area-specific, the statistics are also specific to a season. The month and day constituting the start and end of this season are in the START_TIME and END_TIME in the FILE section of this header. The year part of these dates has no meaning. The file contains the following data types : 1. Pressure 2. the number of samples underlying the statistics in the following channels 3. The minimum expected range deemed credible by the scientist who created the range profile 4. The maximum expected range 5. The mean of all samples WITHIN THE EXPECTED RANGE 6. Standard deviation of the above 7. The median of all samples WITHIN THE EXPECTED RANGE 8. The mode of the distribution WITHIN THE EXPECTED RANGE 9. The percentage of the sample within the mode bin 10. The bin size used to calculate the mode The expected maximum and minimum range was estimated by visual examination of frequency distribution plots. Data outside the expected range is not automatically suspect : it may have cap tured an anomalous event, it may have been collected near a border of the polygon, or in an area which was infrequently or never sampled at the time of the range profile's creation. Channels 3 and 4 represent a best educated guess. Channels 2, 5-10 reflect the archive as it was at the time the statistical quantities were calculated. Data outside the expected range WAS NOT INCLUDED IN CALCULATING CHANNELS 2, and 5-10. This range profile was hand edited by Bill Crawford, who based his estimates on frequency distribution plots generated by Luc Cuypers / Hermes Computing Services. *END OF HEADER .0 1648. 30.300 33.200 31.784 .436 31.810 32.030 9. .100 5.0 1907. 30.300 33.200 31.808 .442 31.831 31.880 8. .100 10.0 2119. 30.400 33.400 31.952 .436 31.977 32.056 9. .100 15.0 1991. 30.700 33.400 32.106 .415 32.129 32.182 10. .100 20.0 2183. 31.000 33.700 32.273 .415 32.280 32.398 10. .100 25.0 2099. 31.200 33.800 32.443 .414 32.440 32.492 10. .100 30.0 2155. 31.300 33.900 32.564 .407 32.541 32.463 10. .100 35.0 1978. 31.400 34.000 32.686 .408 32.670 32.566 9. .100 40.0 2030. 31.600 34.100 32.806 .410 32.797 32.527 9. .100 45.0 1973. 31.700 34.100 32.912 .404 32.926 33.153 10. .100 50.0 2119. 31.800 34.100 33.012 .401 33.041 33.253 10. .100 60.0 1833. 32.000 34.100 33.180 .388 33.239 33.471 10. .100 70.0 1750. 32.100 34.100 33.332 .376 33.420 33.770 13. .100 80.0 1637. 32.300 34.100 33.460 .350 33.568 33.710 17. .100 90.0 1505. 32.500 34.100 33.562 .323 33.680 33.770 22. .100 100.0 1415. 32.700 34.100 33.644 .285 33.750 33.860 27. .100 110.0 1047. 32.800 34.100 33.695 .254 33.790 33.850 33. .100 125.0 838. 32.900 34.100 33.772 .195 33.840 33.865 41. .100 150.0 579. 33.200 34.100 33.843 .137 33.880 33.860 42. .100 175.0 358. 33.500 34.100 33.905 .058 33.910 33.942 62. .100 200.0 346. 33.700 34.100 33.932 .047 33.938 33.896 53. .100 250.0 260. 33.700 34.100 33.962 .041 33.965 33.963 51. .050 300.0 157. 33.800 34.100 33.989 .033 33.990 33.997 59. .050 350.0 114. 33.800 34.200 34.013 .036 34.017 34.021 55. .050 400.0 110. 33.900 34.200 34.036 .034 34.040 34.053 63. .050 450.0 108. 33.900 34.200 34.064 .033 34.070 34.070 65. .050 500.0 80. 33.950 34.200 34.094 .031 34.094 34.085 61. .050 600.0 46. 34.000 34.300 34.163 .030 34.170 34.171 36. .020 700.0 49. 34.000 34.400 34.235 .036 34.240 34.229 30. .020 800.0 42. 34.100 34.400 34.296 .028 34.296 34.302 40. .020 900.0 30. 34.300 34.400 34.351 .019 34.353 34.357 53. .020 1000.0 12. 34.350 34.450 34.398 .020 34.400 34.400 50. .020 These pages were created for viewing with Microsoft Internet Explorer v 5.5 (they may not appear as intended under other viewers).
