Ottawa’s new Indigo

By Gina Pepper

An ever-changing hotel

Thanks to the creative minds behind Ottawa’s new Hotel Indigo this property will always be just that – new. That’s because the 106 guest rooms will be refreshed with original designs – new artwork and decor accents – on a regular basis. So even a favorite room will never feel dated.

Opened at the end of 2006 and located just four blocks from Canada’s seat of government, the Gothic-style Parliament Hill, Hotel Indigo is housed in a historic early 1900s building. The stately six-story atrium captures the sunlight – just one way the hotel brings the outside in. The warm wooden floors, botanical-patterned textiles and murals of birch trees or fields of wheat all point to nature taking center stage.

Amenities include spa-style glass showers, luxurious bedding and free high-speed Internet in the rooms, a fitness center and indoor pool. Phi Bistro and Bar, the onsite restaurant, serves seasonal, contemporary tapas-style fare.

The tenth hotel in this small boutique chain, a branch of InterContinental Hotels, and the first Canadian outpost, the Indigo is all about renewal. This sense of revitalization – from the building conversion and seasonal murals to the soothing greens, blues and deep browns in the rooms – makes this a hotel a fresh addition to an already vibrant city.
