Concierge tells all: Charlottetown

Favorites from Gary Craswell, General Manager of the Rodd Charlottetown.

Mavor’s Bistro & Bar

Pure Canada: Where’s the best place to catch a local concert in Charlottetown?

Gary Craswell: Kitchen parties happen every weekend on the island, but one of my favorite places to go is a small community hall called the BIS (the Benevolent Irish Society). These parties have a different group of dancers, singers and storytellers every time. We call them the Kitchen Party Bunch.

PC: What establishment serves the best cocktail in town?

GC: Mavor’s Bistro & Bar in Confederation Centre of the Arts has great atmosphere, where you can enjoy an apple martini and a cigar in the outdoor courtyard.

PC: What’s the best way to spend a sunny afternoon?

GC: There are many beautiful heritage red island roads to explore. My wife once found a 1905 nickel on one of them. There must be a story there…

PC: What’s your favorite room in the hotel?

GC: My favorite room is the Georgian Ballroom. It has pillared dome ceilings, chandeliers and crystal wall sconces from the classic 1933 era. It was home to band dances during the war, where many a romance started… and weddings later on when the romance became “official.”
