Two new appointees to the CSTMC Board of Trustees


OTTAWA, September 14, 2005 – Mr. Karn Manhas of Port Coquitlam, British Columbia and Dr. Narendra Kumar Srivastava of Moncton, New Brunswick have been appointed by the Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Status of Women Liza Frulla as part-time members of the Board of Trustees of the Canada Science and Technology Museum Corporation.

Mr. Manhas is presently President of Karyon Projects Corporation and is a former Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Port Coquitlam-Burke Mountain, serving from 2001 to 2005. He was Director of Business Development and Operations Planning for a local commercial/residential property management firm and was also President of a start-up application software programming company, which he founded and operated in Port Coquitlam. He holds a bachelor of science degree in biology from McGill University. Mr. Manhas has been appointed for a term of three years and he replaces Dr. Olga Barrat whose term had expired after serving seven years on the Board of Trustees.

Dr. Narendra Srivastava is a research professor and former dean of the University of Moncton’s Faculty of Engineering. From 1978 to 2002, he was a full professor at the University of Moncton and from 1969 to 1978, he was a professor at the University of Waterloo, Guelph University and the Royal Military College. He is currently vice-president of two international engineering associations (SWEC and IAESS) and the chair of the National Committee on Innovation and Information Technology in Civil Engineering. Dr. Srivastava has been appointed for a term of two years.

The Canada Science and Technology Museum Corporation is responsible for preserving and protecting Canada’s scientific and technological heritage and promoting and sharing knowledge about that heritage. The Corporation and its three Museums – the Canada Agriculture Museum, the Canada Aviation Museum and the Canada Science and Technology Museum – tell the stories of Canadian ingenuity and achievement in science and technology and demonstrate how these accomplishments have contributed to the building of our country.
