Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora

Animals and Plants

More than 30 000 species of plants and animals are currently listed in the different Appendices of CITES.

From a Canadian point of view, some of these species receive more attention because their trade presents some particularities. To better understand these, information sheets for certain animals and plants have been prepared. These sheets contain essential information to import or export without difficulty the specimens of the species concerned. Other information related to the species' biology, status and major threats may also be included.

If the species or group of species your are looking for is not available in the menu on the left-hand side, please consult the Control List which provides details on all species included in the CITES Appendices.

Specialized documentation is also available to facilitate identification of certain CITES listed species groups.

Scientific Authorities make non-detriment findings (NDF) for each CITES permit issued. In some cases, a documented non-detriment finding is prepared. To date, documented NDFs on bobcat, ginseng, goldenseal and lynx are available.
