Commercial Salmon
Albion Test Fishery - Chinook
Gill Net
The following
reports are available:
The Albion chinook gill net test fishery has been in continuous
operation for the past 24 years. An 8" mesh net was
used exclusively until 1997. From 1998-2002 an experimental
multi-panel net was alternated daily with the 8" mesh net.
The trial with the multi-panel net was initiated to address
questions regarding the representation of chinook stocks captured
at Albion. As a result of the analysis from the 1998-2002
multi-panel net study, a modified multi-panel net will be fished
on alternating days with the 8”mesh net in 2007. The test
fishery began on June 18, 2007.
Years
Conducted
The Albion chinook gill net test fishery has operated annually
since 1981. Historic test fishing data is available on
this website via the Daily Test Fishing Reports.
Vessels
Operating
Since 1981 only one (1) vessel has conducted the Albion test
fishery, the fishing vessel "Witch Doctor".

How can I become part of the
test fisheries?
Test fisheries are generally advertised
to the public through various sources. The main source being
Notices to Industry, which can be viewed on the Internet from
our Fishery
Notice System. Other sources are the DFO Internet sites
and 'Opportunity to Participate' applications. Through these
advertisements, Fisheries and Oceans Canada seeks experienced
fishers which meet requirements outlined in the application.
