Canadians have a clear choice of Proven Leadership for our economy, our security

August 2, 2015, Waterdown, ON — Flamborough-Glanbrook Conservative candidate David Sweet welcomes the official start of the 42nd general election campaign saying that in a fragile global economy and an increasingly dangerous world, Canadians will have a clear choice in this election between the proven leadership of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the risky high-tax, high-debt plans and inexperience of the other parties.

“Now more than ever we need the proven leadership of Stephen Harper and we must continue with our low tax plan for economic growth,” says Sweet.

“We are making record investments in infrastructure, lowering taxes for all Canadians, balancing the budget and, here in the greater Hamilton area, we continue to make strategic investments that are creating local jobs in new and innovative fields.”

Sweet emphasizes that we’re blessed to live in a democracy and sees the longer campaign as an opportunity to meet more voters and discuss the issues at stake in this election.

Sweet wishes everyone a safe and enjoyable long weekend. His campaign office in Waterdown will be open on Tuesday, and an office in the Glanbrook area will open soon.

David Sweet has been the Member of Parliament for Flamborough, as well as Ancaster, Dundas and Westdale, since 2006. He is seeking re-election in the new riding of Flamborough-Glanbrook. Riding boundaries were redrawn by an independent commission in 2013 based on population shifts reported in the 2011 census – creating the new riding of Flamborough-Glanbrook among 30 new ridings across the country.

Why the new boundaries?

Every 10 years, based on the results of the national census, the federal riding boundaries are reviewed by an independent commission to ensure representation by population in Parliament.  Given significant population growth in many parts of the greater Hamilton area over the past decade, the boundaries were redrawn in 2013 to add one additional full riding within the boundaries of the City of Hamilton.  As a result, the growing communities of Binbrook, Mount Hope, Upper Stoney Creek, Elfrida and the South Mountain (South of Rymal Road) were added to the growing communities of Waterdown, Flamborough and rural Ancaster to form the new federal riding of Flamborough-Glanbrook.

Dean Allison, who has served as the federal representative for Glanbrook since 2004 will be the Conservative candidate in the neighbouring riding of Niagara West – part of his former riding.  David Sweet, the current federal representative for Ancaster, Dundas, Flamborough and West Hamilton will be the Conservative candidate in the new riding of Flamborough-Glanbrook this October.

The following communities will be affected by the riding boundary changes:

– Flamborough, including Waterdown, Carlisle, Freelton, Millgrove, Lynden and more

– Glanbrook, including Mount Hope, Binbrook, Elfrida and more

– Upper Stoney Creek

– the rural communities of the former Township of Ancaster – Lynden, Jerseyville, Alberton and Copetown (west of Hwy 52)

– the south portion of the Mountain – those homes south of Rymal Road
