La collection Publications In / Publications de du Musée national de l'Homme, Musée national du Canada, est composée de publications savantes et scientifiques du genre bulletin, reliées toile et brochées. Des séries distinctes en archéologie, ethnologie, culture traditionnelle et histoire sont numérotées séquentiellement. Cette collection a été abandonnée en 1975, lorsque la Collection Mercure est devenue le principal organe des publications érudites et scientifiques du Musée.

Les renseignements de plusieurs des livres qui suivent sont présentés tels que publiés avant 1974. Ainsi, elles peuvent inclure des terminologies qui, de nos jours, sont considérées inexactes ou inconvenantes.

 

 

The Publications In / Publications de series of the National Museum of Man, National Museum of Canada, is comprised of both cloth and paper bound bulletin-type scientific, scholarly and topical publications. Separate series in archaeology, ethnology, folk culture and history are numbered sequentially. This series was discontinued in 1975 as the Mercury Series became the main vehicle for scholarly and scientific publishing by the Museum.

For many of the following books the captions appear as originally published prior to 1974. They may include terminology not considered correct or appropriate today.

2. MCCLELLAN, Catherine, 1970. The Girl Who Married the Bear: A Masterpiece of Indian Oral Traditions. 58 pages, ISBN 0-660-10338-9 / 978-0-660-10338-9.

The narration of a legend very popular among Natives of the Yukon. The appendix gives seven versions of the story each with a brief history of the narrator and the circumstances under which the story was told.

My Old People Say remains a primary resource for students of the history and culture of northwestern North America. Catherine McClellan's three decades of collaboration with the Inland Tlingit, Tagish and Southern Tutchone resulted in splendid, scholarly volumes that document rich and detailed memories of late nineteenth century social organization, subsistence strategies and resource allocation, as well as aesthetic, spiritual and intellectual traditions.

This is a facsimile edition of an anonymous, undated manuscript of a previously unknown Algonquian language. It includes an historical introduction, in which author and language are identified, copious footnotes and indexes in five languages.

Historical and ecological study of eighteenth century Inuit settlements in northern Labrador. The size of residential groups is analysed on the basis of data obtained from the voluminous diaries and records of the early Moravian missionaries.

The concentration of commercial whaling activities, including wintering, at several harbours in northwestern Hudson Bay provided opportunities for Inuit trade and employment, and consequently altered the distribution of the population, its material culture, economic base, health, and social life.

This book contains over one hundred songs about love and marriage, humour, the supernatural, murder and other tragedies as well as the seven dramatic Child ballads. The songs, with few exceptions, are of traditional British origin and for the most part come from the village of Elgin in Albert County the home of a particularly fine singer, Mr. Angelo Dornan.

2. PEACOCK, Kenneth, 1971. A Garland of Rue: Lithuanian Folksongs of Love and Betrothal. Translated by Danute Rautins. 60 pages, 4 flexidiscs, ISBN 0-660-10333-8 / 978-0-660-10333-4.

Twenty-eight Lithuanian folksongs representative of the mating cycle are presented. The collection, with English translations, includes courting songs, matchmaking songs, songs of seduction, laments for lost chastity, songs concerning widows and orphans who marry.
