NOTE: The compilation lists the governing party, the percentage of seats of a region which that party obtained, and the total number of seats won at the general election. The Yukon, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut are included in the Western region. In addition, where a region's representation constitutes more than half of the seats obtained by the party, the percentage is marked by an asterisk (*). For example: as a result of the 1972 election the Liberals continued to form the government. They won 10% of the Western seats, 41% of the Ontario seats, 76% of the Quebec seats, and 31% of the Atlantic seats. Their representation was 109 seats in the House of Commons, more than half of which came from Quebec (the asterisk). "Canada Votes", the "Reports of the Chief Electoral Officer", and the "Parliamentary Guide" were used as source material.
