How to Apply

Deadline for submitting applications is Tuesday, 06 November, 2007

In an attempt to streamline and simplify the application process, we have created a new application form. Every applicant will use our new “Polar Shelf Logistics Application Form.” Please be sure to contact us with any questions or concerns.

Email: pcsp@nrcan.gc.ca
Tel.: 613-947-1650
Fax.: 613-947-1611

Timeline
The application deadline is in November each year. The material is compiled by PCSP and in mid-December, the PCSP Science Screening Committee, as part of its annual deliberation, evaluates all non-Canadian and non-government applications and presents its recommendations to PCSP. PCSP reserves the right to make final decisions concerning project support based upon resource availability and logistics feasibility. Applicants are informed about the level of support granted to them by PCSP through a Letter of Support to each project, traditionally mailed out in February/March.

Who can apply
Principal investigators planning to conduct fieldwork in the Arctic are invited to apply for logistics support by submitting the Polar Shelf Logistics Application Form. Depending on when and where you are conducting your operations, support may be available in the form of airplane or helicopter use, fuel caching, accommodation for your field party, loan of field or communication equipment, etc.

Canadian Arctic-Antarctic Exchange Program
The Canadian Arctic-Antarctic Exchange Program is designed to encourage collaboration between Canadian Arctic scientists and non-Canadian scientists working in the Antarctic. Participants who wish to apply under this program must make note of it on page one of the “Polar Shelf Logistics Application Form” and submit the required information with the application.

Traditional Knowledge Program
PCSP has developed a Traditional Knowledge Program, offering logistics support to projects developed by or with Arctic communities in order to meet community needs.

Licensing & Permitting
Researchers are responsible for ensuring that they have all the necessary licences and permits. PCSP cannot put any parties into the field if we have not received a copy of all pertinent documentation.
