Tundra Ecosystem Research Station (TERS) (Longitude, Latitude) : ( 111 35 W, 64 52 N ) Daring Lake, Northwest Territories, Canada
This permanent research station consists of four all-season Weatherhaven tents, two Jutland tents and two outhouses. One large tent is used for cooking/dining, the other for accommodation. Two smaller tents are used as a laboratory facility and a utility/wash tent. The insulated Weatherhaven tents have oil and propane heaters for winter use and can house up to 10 people. In the summer, up to 24 people can be accommodated as the two Jutland tents and four small dome tents can be utilized for sleeping quarters. The camp is supplied with both AC and DC power by solar panels and a wind generator with a back-up 3800 watt generator. Hot and cold running water is available in the summer. Two floating docks are located on Daring Lake for mooring aircraft and camp boats. The camp is surrounded by a solar-powered bear fence to protect the facilities and researchers from potential nuisance or problem wildlife.
Contact the Research Station Manager for information regarding use of the facility, logistics support, required government authorizations and community consultation.
