Facility

Eureka Weather Station

Eureka, Ellesmere Island, Nunavut, Canada

Description

Main complex consists of several permanent buildings with electricity and heat; operations/accommodations building, maintenance garage, powerhouse, transient barracks, warehouse, vehicle garage, and various other buildings.

Main complex sleeps 20 transient personnel, transient barracks sleeps 12. Operations/accommodation building has drinking water, showers, flush toilets, laundry facilities, recreation room, reading/meeting room, TV room, kitchen/dining room.

Electricity is provided by diesel-powered generators. Heat is provided by oil furnaces, electric heaters, and a heat recovery system.

Licences/Permits/Applications

Visitor Permit and Waiver must be completed and approved. Other permits may be required by federal and territorial governments depending on the work being conducted.

By air charter (no scheduled commercial flights).
Annual resupply by ship.

Fuel can be cached at Eureka.
