Facility

Devon Island Research Station

Devon Island (Truelove Lowland), Nunavut, Canada

Description

The station offers simple, functional facilities serving basic needs. These consists of a frame construction, kitchen and several portable buildings supplemented by tents. Buildings are supplied with generator power as needed. The station comfortably supports up to 15 people, although additional numbers can be accommodated for shorter periods. Ranger vehicles, a trailer, tools and a limited supply of fuel are usually on site. A sauna and colonial-type laundry facility is available. Field parties should arrive at Devon Island prepared to be self-supporting.

Charges may change without prior notice.

Communications at facility

Communications is by HF radio on 4251.5 kHz. Federal government regulations require a radio operator's licence and written permission to use AINA's frequency. Portable radios must be acquired prior to arrival in Resolute Bay. Contact the Institute for details on radio communications.

Access to facility

Air linkage to the station is by charter aircraft from Resolute Bay. A landing strip suitable for Twin Otter and other light aircraft is on site. Access by government icebreaker may be feasible in August if arranged well in advance.

Not available, must make your own arrangements.
